TYPES OF ACNE WE TREAT
There are many types of acne and we can treat them all. Whilst acne is a systemic condition, it
manifests itself in different ways such as those below. Whichever type of acne you believe
you’re suffering from, our treatments can help combat your symptoms.
Cystic acne is the most serious type of acne. It develops when cysts form deep underneath your
skin. This can result from a combination of bacteria, oil, and dry skin cells that get trapped in
WHAT IS CYSTIC ACNE?
Cystic acne presents itself as hard lumps under the skin. They can be localised in a small area
or they appear generally across the face, but also the back or chest. Cystic acne can develop
from moderate acne if the condition worsens without effective intervention.
Stress can contribute to cystic acne but it is most commonly caused by severe, systemic acne,
which means an underlying insensitivity to a hormonal imbalance, which creates the right
environment on the skin for cystic acne to take hold.
BACK ACNE OR BACNE
“Bacne” is a common skin condition that can cause a lot of stress. Acne tends to appear on the
back when you are suffering from severe, systemic acne.
WHAT CAUSES ACNE ON THE BACK?
If you have acne on your back (also known as “bacne”), as well as your face and maybe also
your chest, this is likely to be because you have a type of acne called severe acne. Severe acne
is a systemic condition, which means it has an underlying rather than a superficial cause. It
involves inflamed nodules and cysts in more than one area, especially the shoulders.
Severe acne is driven by a sensitivity to hormones, in particular Dihydrotestosterone or DHT.
WHAT ARE THE SYMPTOMS OF BACK ACNE?
Back acne has the same symptoms as severe acne on the face:
- Hard and painful nodules and cysts
- Excess oil
- Increased skin cell turnover
- Increased bacteria
Typically Acne Vulgaris presents itself as mild to moderate and appears on the lower part of the
face, on the chin, and around the mouth.
